1st Blue Earth Day Eco-Festival
Saturday 24.05.2008 @ Tumbalong Park, Darling Harbour
|
October Sun Enterprises is our expo partner, and together we bring the message of eco-awareness to the City of Sydney, and Yes Circus brings the colour and fun.
After our Showing in April, we will have a list of performers, their characters and their antics on the website and in this newsletter.
Here is a summary of the event from PBJ Entertainment:
Most Australians are aware of the negatives related to global warming. What most are not aware of are the initiatives and solutions that can be implemented in your own home to help combat Global Warming.
Blue Earth Day's aim is to educate through showing the very real and practical solutions that have been developed. The festival promises to have a spectacular line up of artists, guest speakers, eco workshops, multimedia displays, a food fair, market stalls, children's and adult's activities & entertainment all based around sustainability and the environment.
The Blue Earth Day festival will be carbon neutral, green powered, recycled, composted, fair traded, bio-degradable, non-toxic, renewable and organically fed, thereby making it Sydney's first ever fully sustainable event.
We feel very honoured to be able to help Blue Earth Day in bringing extra colour and energy to the event, and we are looking to get a great line-up of performers to make the day even better.

Domes
the investment in our own circus performance shelter!
|
Hey everyone. I am currently talking with Rob, the head of Dome Company, about getting a 10m high/20m diameter Dome for future Yes Circus performances - both by our own troupe, and for general event use.
I'm pretty excited to be using what I had seen withstand hurricane-style winds at Burning Man in Nevada, USA (which I attended in 2006 and 2007).
At the last Burning Man, 2 or our 3 main parachute tent that housed 12 of our tents plus created a dance space collapsed and had to be reconstructed 3 times. Last years Burning Man winds' were particularily fierce, as the rains in the previous year had not compacted the dusty ground that well.
But we did have our own small Dome structure (I'd say 3.5m in height) which ended up being the most organised in the setting up of structures for our camp (Camp Contact). Due to the clamps attaching the tarpaulin to the structure being stitched into the tarp, the Dome was going nowhere.
Many other camp structures elsewhere, such as wooden gateways or more elaborate tents didn't do much better than our parachutes.
So, having seen the Dome in action, I am very excited to know we can get hold of one or more here in Australia, and I am excited to see it possibly becoming the standard 'tent' for our Circus
More news about this as we research this possibility further ...

Brainstorming the future
For those taking Yes Circus ahead ∗∗∗
|
|
Many opportunities exist for Yes Circus to move beyond an Event Management service.
As most of us have picked up in one way or another, the Australian arts scene isn't doing that fantastically, though under the new Rudd federal government, Arts is receiving a much better share of moneys.
Of course, anyone reading this with a bit of knowledge, knows that Australia's society isn't the most forward thinking or funding country in the world concerning Arts. Apathy seems to rule many in the community, with the DVD an easy step away.
I believe this is something that we can help alter.
But, the possiblities are where others haven't got the time to look, and on the 20th April, I am convening this day to invite interested people to Brainstorm mine and others ideas, concepts and possiblities for Yes Circus. Ways to helping Yes Circus become one of Sydney and Australia's most thriving Arts Company, bringing our style of performance and creation to the world.
If you would like to come along to give something, hear loads in return, and eat and drink some yummy stuff, let us know
Thanks
Eric

ERIC VIGO: I am 'hanging' out to play on my static trapeze with someone.
I'll be able to rig my trapeze at last, once I get my Riggers licence in a months time.
I am particularily interested in holding positions on the trapeze for effect, and just show stuff and learn. Once we get somewhere to play, the more static trapeze artists, the better!
Email Eric if you want to do collaborative trapeze
PAULO MORRISON: (snippet)The ´Sydney Sider´ project is a dance film which displays different locations of Sydney while an everyday character breaks out of their everyday rituals of there life, and dances a site specific choreography to an site specific musical score.
Both the choreography and the musical score is generated through particular characteristics of the chosen site, not only in an Architectural sense. The choreography will reflect and engage the everyday people that inhabit these metropolitan shared spaces.
Email Paulo if you want further information
We will be beefing up this section considerably over the next few newsletters. Email here to send requests or offers
